The Duke and I (as chaperoned by Julia) enjoyed a lovely date night at Marlin Grill a couple Fridays ago. Marlin is located at the Village of Baytowne Wharf in the Sandestin Resort.
The setting is quite lovely, as the restaurant overlooks the open lawn at Baytowne. On busy nights you can always see families strolling to and fro. We went the Friday before Easter, so the place was crawling with lots of folks!
As I’m sure you can guess from the name, Marlin Grill specializes in fresh, local seafood with an upscale spin.
We started our meal with the pepper crusted tuna.
The Duke adores seared tuna, and this did not disappoint. The fish was seasoned with the perfect blend of spices and it was served over mixed veggies. I think there was even a collard green or two in there! Very interested flavor combo, for sure.
I know I’m such a dainty gal but I opted for the blue cheese stuffed ribeye for my entree. I mean, come on! Did I mention it was smothered with caramelized onions? Oh yes.
I only ate about a 1/3 of this portion, but it was so, so good. I just love a good steak.
The Duke ordered the trio of fish specialties, including more seared tuna, pan sauteed grouper Bienville, and grilled Mahi Mahi with a dill caper cream sauce.
Each fish was delicious! I think the Mahi was my favorite. It was so mild and delicate and the caper cream sauce was perfect.
For dessert we enjoyed the chocolate pecan bread pudding with a big ole scoop of vanilla ice cream.
It was pretty good, but not the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. I still ate a healthy portion.
Julia was introduced to vanilla ice cream here and couldn’t get enough. I’m sure some moms would scoff at me giving my 8 month old ice cream, but baby girl was loving each sweet bite.
We greatly enjoyed our evening at Marlin Grill. It is a family friendly spot, but would make for a nice adult-only meal, also.
