If you’re looking for a fun way to get in an hour of intense cardio, you have got to try Zumba!

If you follow me on Twitter or have read my blog for any amount of time, you know that I love this Latin-based cardio dance class. I only tried it for the first time after Julia was born. I was really itching to get back in shape so I gave the class a whirl.
I’m so glad I did. I wouldn’t have thought I’d get a good workout from a dance class, but Zumba is intense! You’re on your toes for much of the class, moving and shaking your hips nonstop. With Pit Bull and J.Lo blaring in your ear, you’re bound to have a good time.
I took some photos and even a couple videos in a recent class. Sorry they’re blurry…it was my iPhone. I want you to see just how much fun working out can be.

I think most people are intimidated to try Zumba because they think they can’t dance. Who cares?! Believe me, no one is watching you. We’re all watching the instructor and trying not to make fools of ourselves.
It takes coming to class a few times before you’ll get all the moves down. Once you do, you can concentrate on really getting a good workout.

The instructor makes all the difference. Hopefully your local gym has a great teacher. Our instructor is Crissy and she’s amazing! She’s got the most incredible body I’ve ever seen and keeps the energy up during class. She loves to see everyone sweating and having fun.
Without further adieu, here is yours truly shakin’ it.
And here is a quick video from our fearless leader, Crissy.
You should definitely give Zumba a try soon. It’s the perfect workout when you don’t feel like doing your run-of-the-mill jog or aerobics class. I promise you’ll have fun and feel great about yourself afterward!

Love the videos!! I love me some Zumba. My sister went and bought a bunch of DVDs and declared she “hated it” — DVDs are NOT the same!! You have to go to a class to get the energy of the group and the instructor. And I totally agree with you – I am the world’s worst dancer and I still love Zumba … mostly because I sweat my bum off while shaking it.

LOVE this! You’re so brave for posting a video. I don’t know if I could do that, you look much better than me when shaking it

I would totally do zumba if the weekly class at my gym wasn’t at 9 in the morning on weekdays!
of course, these days I barely get to the gym at all since I don’t get home until late!

I’m a big Zumba fan too, after discovering it 2+ years ago. It accounted for 60+ lbs of weight loss (coupled with clean eating). I agree, videos are not the same. Also, not all instructors are the same. Important to find one you like, but to burn 600-800 calories an hour, totally worth it!
