Body After Baby {1 Month}

Nearly six weeks have passed since Mac was born and I’m ready to get back to my pre-baby health and fitness practices.

I’m not concerned with getting “skinny”- I just want to return to the state of mind and physical shape that I was before Mac was born. I was working out 5 times a week, eating {mostly} right, and feeling good. I had energy and could happily chase Julia around. I’m ready to be there again.

I know it’s going to take time, but I’m ready to get the journey started. Now that the dust has settled, I’m hovering around 144 pounds. I was about 134 when I got pregnant with Mac and 165 when I delivered him. I know I’m going to have to work hard for these last 10 pounds to come off but I’m looking forward to the battle!

My biggest struggle these days is finding the time and energy to workout. I literally have 30 minutes of down time a day and I’m so wiped that I usually lay down. I know this will get better once Mac sleeps through the night.

Child care is another issue. My gym has a great nursery but kids have to be six months to attend. I can (and do) take Julia but I have to find other arrangements for Mac.

My goal these days is to work out 3-4 times a week. I’m being flexible. Some days I walk and run outside, some days I do a Jillian Michael’s DVD, and some days I can actually make it to the gym. I know I’m just happy to be doing something!

As far as eating goes, we’re getting back to well balanced meals and snacks. No more fries and sweets that I indulged on during pregnancy. We’re not Paleo type folks. We just cook with wholesome ingredients and watch our portions.

So there you have it.

I’m really excited and eager to get back in shape and I know I’ll be there sooner or later. I’m giving myself grace. It’s not going to happen today or tomorrow, but if I stick with I’ll get there. More than anything I want to be a positive role model for my kids and enjoy a long and healthy life with them.

    Agree with Samma. You look great! It’s a struggle, especially after the 2nd baby comes. 2 different nap times & different needs leaves a mama with very little time to take care of herself.

    You have a great attitude! Keep up the good work.

    I think it’s great you’re already doing SOMETHING! That’s better than nothing! You’ll get there. But you still look awesome! And hey—at least it’s only 10 lbs. Some women have LOTS more than that. I think 10 is VERY doable!

    This extra baby weight I am carrying is so hard for me to deal with. I too am looking forward to returning to my healthy and active lifestyle. Your goals seem reasonable. Good luck! You look great already!

    You look great! Don’t stress too much about the last few pounds – you know you’ll get there. The exhaustion can actually make you hold on to the weight – so don’t try to push yourself too hard. That sucks that your gym daycare doesn’t take babies until 6 months. I would cry!!

    Looking good Molly! I can’t fathom how there is time in the day to workout when you have 2 so young, so you’re goal of 3-4 times a week sounds amazing!

    You’re an inspiration! I only have one child and I don’t think I started working out on a regular basis until he was 6 months old. Good job!

    Good for you for giving yourself grace, that’s healthy right there! :) I remember how good it felt to just take long walks with the kids, just to get moving again.
